Old Ebbitt Grill is a DC institution. Located one block from the White House, it's popular with tourists and Washingtonians alike.
This used to be a favorite watering hole of mine. But many of my bartender pals jumped ship for Clyde's once it opened in Gallery Place.
A good friend of mine went on maternity leave back in December. We used to work together and after I started my own business, we'd meet regularly for lunch. I promised to stay in touch with her... but sure enough... as soon as she was relegated to life in Maryland, we lost touch.
Until today.
The proud mama is back at work with photos of her gorgeous baby boy -- so I met her for lunch at Old Ebbitt. I didn't realize how much I'd missed her until I saw her in the packed entryway. And I do mean jampacked.
If you're planning to go there for lunch, especially if Congress is in session, be sure to make reservations. Lucky for me I had called ahead as an afterthought -- or she and I would have been stuck eating at one of the four bars.
Of course, the first thing I did was apologize profusely for not staying in touch via email or making the trek out to Maryland. Lucky for me she was too sleepy, busy, cranky, tired to deal with any more than a newborn baby, a 2-year old darling toddler, and her hubby.
So by the time we finished our crab cakes we were all caught up on each other's lives and all was well.
I think next time we do lunch we'll try Butterfield 9 or Ceiba.
